A Student Midwife's Journal

When people hear “self-paced program” it can sound freeing, and in many ways it is, but for me that freedom only works with some structure. There’s no cohort I can lean into or daily classes to anchor my schedule. It’s just me, my life, and the discipline this season asks of me.

And….my life is full.

A full-time job.

A family of six.

A long road of midwifery education ahead.

Building a rhythm isn’t optional it’s the only way I make sure the studying actually gets done.

Sunday evenings have become my grounding point. I sit down with my planner, take stock of what the week holds, and set myself up for the days ahead. I tab up my textbooks using sticky notes. I bookmark my online readings. And map out the study blocks I can realistically commit to. This prep allows me to immediately get to work when I sit down.

Some weeks I can get in long stretches of work. Other weeks it’s twenty minutes here, thirty minutes there. But progressing through my lessons is about showing up and staying consistent.

This is my rhythm — one study block at a time.
