Apprenticeships Have Begun

Apprenticeships Have Begun

I’m about halfway through my time at Maternidad La Luz in El Paso, Tia for the first phase of my midwifery apprenticeship. From the moment I walked through the doors, learning began. I want my apprenticeships to be in a setting rooted in community, shaped by culture, and grounded in care that is both practical and deeply human. Being here has far exceeded my expectations.

This week also marked a return to MomsRising and to my studies, so balancing all of the things has very much been the name of the game. Holding work, learning, and life at the same time and trusting this season in carrying all three.

Of course, there’s also been space to explore El Paso itself. From museums, to history, to taking in nature, I am really trying to take it all in. These moments matter too. They’re part of the learning.

I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to stretch in this way, to be challenged, to be affirmed, and to grow into this work with care and intention. This is only the beginning.
