A Student Midwife's Journal

This week I marked a small milestone, but a milestone nonetheless, completing my Introductory Modules!

In a self-paced program, there aren’t cohort schedules or shuttling from one class to another  to signal progress. It’s just you, your discipline, and the rhythm of your own life. Some weeks I move through lessons at a swift pace and other days it’s one slow page at time. I’m just taking one bite at the apple at a time.

These Intro Modules are exactly what they sound like, the groundwork. They form the foundation, offering a broad overview and immersive grounding in the core aspects of midwifery before stepping into the deeper work. Not the deeper clinical work, not the hands-on skills, but the grounding lens through which all of that will eventually make sense.

And honestly, sitting in these early lessons reminded me why I chose this path in the first place. From an overview of normal pregnancy and prenatal care to health equity and social oppressions to  cultural humility, these lessons re-centered in purpose.

I’m still at the beginning of a long road ahead. Many (MANY) more modules, but I’m grateful to be here, moving at a pace that honors where I am in my life and the weight of the work I’m preparing to do.
