A Student Midwife's Journal

Tina is a maternal health advocate, policy strategist, and certified birth doula who has dedicated her life’s work to advancing equity in pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond. She recently added student midwife to her journey, deepening her practice in alignment with her values and leveling up her lifelong commitment to transforming birth and reproductive care.

Tina’s path to midwifery has been shaped by her work in maternal health and public policy. Her decision is both personal and political. It is a return to community, to ancestral knowledge, and to building a future where birth is safe, sacred, and rooted in justice. As she begins midwifery school, Tina carries her policy work with her ensuring that care and systems move together to reflect the wisdom, needs, and lived experiences of birthing people.

Tina and her husband, JP, are raising four sons, including a set of teenage twins. She remains deeply engaged in her hometown, serving on local and statewide boards focused on planning, housing, child well-being, and maternal mortality.
